Electrical Cords are dangerous to your Pomeranian.  Most homes have a large amount of electrical cords and it is vital to take note of the location of these. Pomeranian puppies can chew through cords, they will do this especially if they are teething; this can cause them to be electrocuted.

You can prevent this by removing any unused cords onto a high shelf or other area that you are sure your dog will never be able to reach.  For other cords that are in use, plastic or rubber runners can be placed over them.  These runners can be found at most home supply stores and are relatively inexpensive.

Staircases are a hidden danger to your Pomeranian. Small dogs usually have a difficult time successfully walking up and down steps.  Falling can cause a Pomeranian to be hurt very badly. You can make your house safe by putting baby gates at the entrance to your staircase.

Kitchen cabinets can be harmful to your Pomeranian. Dogs can be as curious as toddlers are. The items in your kitchen cabinets can contain very harmful substances.  Because lower cabinets are within perfect reach of your Pomeranian; he/she may easily open a door with their nose or paw and  have fun going through them. Cleaning chemicals contain very harmful and/or fatal ingredients.

To keep your Pomeranian safe, it is a good idea to keep all cleaning supplies in higher cabinets that are out of your dog’s reach or place them in other areas that you know your dog will never be able able to reach. If you find it easier to keep the products where they are; you can purchase plastic cabinet locks.

No one thinks about it a lot, but the food that you are eating and have no plans to give to your dog can be dangers; while we do recommend home cooking there are some certain foods that can drop on the floor without you realizing it....Or sometimes a pup can get into the trash, there are many ways for them to find their way to a food that they should not be eating.  Therefore, it is recommended to keep all foods that are toxic to dogs away from reach....If you are throwing them away, be sure that the trash is taken out or put out of reach.

One of the most common items that owners do not know about are apple cores.  It confuses many because the flesh of the apple is actually healthy and good to feed as a wholesome snack.  However, the core of the apple and the seeds are toxic. They contain small amounts of cyanide which to a little dog like the Pom can be fatal.

Other foods to not give are: Onions, raisins, grapes, chocolate (or any food with caffeine) and the pits of peaches.

Bathrooms are a dangerous place for your Pomeranian if you are not careful.   Just the trash in this room can be extremely harmful.  Floss and feminine products are the leaders of dangerous items for dogs. Pomeranian puppies will also be very curious about toilets and can they can drown if they fall in if they find a way to reach them.

The best way you can make sure your dog does not get in trouble in your bathroom is to keep the door closed at all times. Also, if your Pomeranian seems insistent to go in there, you can think about putting a baby gate across the entrance to your bathroom.

There are certain items, found in most households that can be extremely harmful or fatal if ingested by a dog such as anti freeze for a car.  Since Pomeranians, especially puppies, can be very curious, there is the possibility they will eat anything; even if it is not a food. It is wise to never underestimate the power of a dog’s curiosity and their ability to ingest toxic substances .
