Home Cooked Food For Pomeranians

If you’re thinking about home cooking for your Pomeranian, you’re not alone. Lots of pet parents are taking the route of preparing meals at home to provide ‘clean eating’ for their dogs that helps avoid the terrible pitfalls of many commercial foods.

Some of the most common reasons for wanting to get away from mass-produced dog food include:
  • Food allergies. Synthetic preservatives, food coloring dyes, high levels of soy, corn, or wheat, and a host of other additives like ‘filler foods’ can cause itching, rash, poor coat health, watery eyes, and/or upset stomachs.
  • Health risks linked to dog food. There are food coloring agents (Blue #2, Yellow #5 and #6, Red #40, and 4-MIE) and chemical preservatives (most notably BHA, BHT, and TBHQ) that are proven to be linked to hyperactivity and anxiety, organ damage, breathing issues, and some forms of cancer. Yet, these keep getting added to many dog foods to make the toxic-laced food ‘appealing’. It’s shocking that this continues to happen.
  • Sketchy meat and oil sources. Meat and body parts deemed unfit for human consumption (spleens, genitals, brains, lungs, etc.) are simply labeled ‘by-products’ and thrown into dog food.
Even worse, is generic meat (will show as ‘animal fat’, ‘animal drippings’, etc.), which is derived from roadkill, dead zoo animals, and expired meat from butcher shops, restaurants, and supermarkets. It’s really gross and it’s shameful. Every canine family member deserves real, human-grade meats and produce.
  • Wanting an alternative to bland flavor and boring texture. Lots of Pomeranians are picky about hard kibble or mass-produced canned food and, really, who can blame them?
Home cooking lets you accomplish all of that. Top benefits include:
  • You are completely in control of what your Pom eats and does not eat. Your puppy or dog will never ingest fillers, by-products, soy, MSG, chemical preservatives, artificial coloring or dyes, or other nasty additives again.
  • You can offer alternative gluten-free grains (or go grain-free) without compromising on taste.
  • Flexibility to adjust meals to cater to your Pomeranian’s particular taste. A Pom may prefer carrots over green beans, honeydew melon over raspberries, cod over chicken, or quinoa over rice. You’ll have an entire array of wholesome foods to choose from.
  • Warm, fresh food that bursts with flavor. Nothing can compare to the incredible flavors and textures of homemade food; juicy meats, ripe vegetables, fresh fruit, luscious sauces… When the right recipes are made, it completely resolves finicky eating.
  • Homemade food is budget-friendly. When you buy in bulk, cook in bulk, and ‘meal prep’, you can save money.
