Please note:
If your Pomeranian eats something known to be toxic, call the veterinarian or a pet poison hotline immediately. While signs of poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, confusion, trouble breathing, coughing, and/or marked lethargy, some reactions can be delayed.
Have both activated charcoal and hydrogen peroxide as part of your
Pom’s first aid kit. You may be asked to give your dog activated charcoal (which can help absorb the toxin) or hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting); but in some cases, either of these can make things worse.
While it’s normal to want to give your Pomeranian some of your own food, doing so just one time can set a habit of begging. And, a dog may turn his nose up at his own food if he has been taught that an alternative may be coming.
The best way to ensure that your puppy or dog is eating a healthy diet is to:
•
Choose a superior high-quality dry kibble.
It should have no synthetic preservatives, coloring, flavoring, soy, high grain count, by-products, generic meats or oils, and should be sized for small dogs. One of our top recommended brands is
Wellness CORE Natural Grain-Free Dry for Small Breeds.
•
Have 1 or 2 moist treats reserved specially for rewarding good behavior.
This is to mark actions such going to the bathroom in the right spot, listening to a command, walking nicely beside you, etc. And, this is not just for when you’re training for this. It’s important to reward a dog every now and then to reinforce good behavior.
The training treat should be small (so it does not interfere with appetite), moist (works better than dry), extra tasty, something that is not given out at any rate, and 100% all natural.
Wellness Soft WellBites Natural Grain-Free Dog Treats
is one that we highly recommend. Note, that depending on the size of your Pom, you may wish to break these in half (easy to do, since they are moist).
