Determining the Cause
Up to 20% of all dogs suffer from allergies, so if your Pomeranian is showing strange symptoms it may very well be an allergy. The first step is to figure out if the allergy is external or internal for your dog.
External dog allergies will be something outside the dog that is causing him or her to have an allergic reaction. The most common symptom of an external allergy is itching.
Internal dog allergies that your Pomeranian dog may have will mean that something that your dog ingests into his or her body is causing them grief. The most common symptoms of this are coughing, sneezing, shortness of breath, a wheezing noise and discharge of mucus from the dog's nose or mouth. You may think that your Pomeranian has a cold or the wheezing may have you worried that he can't breath. If you do see that he is struggling to get air, rush him to the vet without hesitation. Most dog allergies are bothersome, very few can be deadly; don't take a chance.
If your Pomeranian is allergic to a certain dog food, the symptoms will be vomiting and/or diarrhea. This can, of course, be extremely horrible for your Pomeranian. Remember how you felt the last time you had the flu? This will be how your Pomeranian feels and he needs you to remedy things for him. A dog does not vomit or have diarrhea for no reason. If you are sticking to a proper diet for your Pomeranian, and she is showing these symptoms, most likely there is a dog food allergy.
